The battle took place on March 20/21, 1814, during the allied invasion of France.
In order to attack the communication lines of the allied army menacing Paris, Napoleon set off from Reims and headed towards his capital. He met resistance at the town of Arcis-sur-Aube, which subsequently fell into the Emperor's hands.
However, Field Marshal Schwarzenberg of Austria detected the danger and counter-attacked. Despite the Austrian army was twice as big as the French (43k to 20k), Schwarzenberg brought up and deployed more troops, increasing his army's size to 80k people.
Napoleon received reinforcements at night as well. His Imperial Guard units and a division of Marshal Oudinot arrived, giving the Emperor additional 8k troops. The total numbers were 80k Austrians (some sources say 100k) and 28k French on the second day of battle.
According to wikipedia:
Quote:
Schwarzenberg, suspecting a trap and as of yet unaware of his numerical advantage, did not attack until 3:00 p.m. on March 21, by which time Napoleon realized he was not facing a small Allied force, broke contact with the enemy and ordered most French troops to re-cross the Aude River. A French rear guard commanded by Marshal Oudinot, bitterly held off the Austrians until 6:00 p.m., before falling back in good order and blowing the bridge over the Aude River behind them. The Austrians made no effort to pursue the retreating French, overnight the French were able to link up near Ormes with other French forces.

French - 5875 troops. Austrian - 8281 troops.
The Austrians are on the attack. They have to seize 2 objectives, on each side of the Arcis bridge ( little French flags).
The French have to hold both objectives for 50 minutes in order to win.
A draw can be announced when the Austrians hold one objective, the French do hold the other one and 50 minutes have passed. No upgrades lala. Drake should be on later to upload the map.
Have fun.

Me. But played with Tylerhink, and it was his first battle. So I have basically no idea how balanced the map is.

Had another test with Marengo this time. I played as the Austrians and didn't hesitate to send my troops into hell, as I had many of them Smile
All the 50 minutes we played the battle was very intense. It ended with me holding one objective and Marengo being in posession of the other one - so according to the instructions the result was a draw.
It was much fun, though some Austrian units have to be delayed for a better balance. Or not... It still requires much more testing.

I just attacked here against Cheesy and though we had a connection failure, I'm pretty sure he would have won...my attack had been thoroughly shredded and he was just about to get the Guard! From this one epxerience, it really seems as though the time releases work great with the size of the armies and objectives...hope to get 2 vs 2 on this though...

Concerning the map, your artistic touch on this particular baby is probably your best yet! Maybe that's why I was defeated...I was enjoying the scenery to much, lol. What a rich palette of colors, and so appropriate for the season...browns, drab greens, mud, slush, the barren trees...this is really an artistic masterpiece m8, well done.

well, it might have had something to do with your dogged defense but....hmmm, I blame the scenery. Wink

Just kidding, it was a great battle, can't wait to get 2 vs 2 on this one..
