Most of the maps I have made so far use an objective system that I invented specifically for this mod (HDN).

The way it works is, spread across the map are various objects (either objectives, supply wagons or tents) that give ammunition income to whoever controls them. Any object that gives ammunition have it written in their description, such as this;

Where "R 5" means Roundshot 5. The actual number (5 in this case) is how much of that type of ammunition is accumulated every 800 game ticks. (the number beside the game time).

Each cannon also has an income of "1" of it's respective ammunition type, so 5 cannons is equal to one of these wagons.

Now logically, whoever has more ammunition income should inevitably win the game by shooting cannons if the opposing team does not attack them. This "forces" the team with less of these objectives to be the attacker, until they take enough to tip the balance in their favour. Of course, in the heat of battle you're not likely to disengage just because you have more ammunition, but in the event of both armies sitting idle, you can easily figure out which side has more objectives and thus know who is going to have to attack.

So let's look at a map, Fictional_GL1. This is the minimap, with the locations and numbers of ammunition written on it:

As you can see, the Federals have initial objectives worth 60, while the Confederates have a total of 25. This makes it clear that the Confederates are going to have to move forward to take objectives. Say they attack and take two of the objectives, now the situation is such, and the objective points are now 40 - 45, with the Rebels in the lead:

As neither side is engaged in fighting, the Rebs could sit back on their objectives and begin a bombardment. If you think it through, this leads to battles that will have an initial attacker, who if he takes enough of the map will then probably be counterattacked, making for interesting and dynamic battles, where one side always should attack.

Also note, a fairly important rule; No deleting cannons, wagons, buildings or objectives. If you expose your cannons and don't protect them, they can get captured, of course you could take them back if the enemy didn't protect them then, but that's the way it is.

I will make minimaps with the objectives written on them as I publish the maps, and put them in the map info with a link to this explanation.

Well unfortunately for me now I may never get the chance to play the completed HDN V4.

I have now deleted DN and by this time next week I should have no pc and I'll be out of this house. Fear not I have packed the Cd in my case along with my FB disc and they are going to Mexico with me as I am assured by GW that if I manage to get back online on active duty, that my discs shall still work.

Youve worked marvels with this game along with Volt and I have thoroughly enjoyed the encounters Ive faced, even though Id say the majority ended in a serious defeat. haha Smile

Love the idea of the wagons and cannons being captured and swinging the advantage of increased artillery ammo in favour of those capturing them...........and not deleting them of course is quite realistic I guess.

Good luck with this and hopefully if Im lucky enough to get back to active duty, I shall find we have more active hawk generals making good use of this awesome mod. WEll done m8, its a credit to the hawks.
